for mother's day, i wanted a project that "the monster" and i could do together. truth is, he's not much into art and the patience it takes. but! he does love dirt and digging, so a little moss house, or terrarium was perfect.
after hunting for moss in the woods...
we layered the following "ingredients" into our cracker jar (in order from bottom to top):
- rocks
- sand
- active carbon (can be found in aquarium section)
- dried spanish moss to soak up the moisture
- soil
- moss
after everything was added, i watered a bit to get things started. the idea is that once i put on the lid, this should survive alone as it's own little ecosystem. plus, who doesn't love to study a little moss house every now & then?
I'm so stealing this idea. Love it!! If only I had a place to search for moss... :)
