sailor knot headband :: diy

i cleaned out our bedroom drawers the other day, and as always, i had an over-abundance of t-shirts. worn cotton is great to work with because it's stretchy and curls up when you stretch it. so, party people, here's your motivation to finally get to that spring cleaning (a season or two late) and maybe end up with a few "new" items:

here's the diy:

1. cut 6 fabric strips (about 1 inch wide) from your t-shirt(s)
2. stretch each strip so that they thin out and curl a bit
3. group them in 2 sets of three
4. knot. i know my pictures aren't super easy to understand, so here's another tutorial on them.
5. fit to head and cut access length of strips
6. grab your t-shirt again and now cut a 4 inch x 6 each rectangle. this does not need to be exact. not even close really.
7. hot glue the ends together, forming a circle. then hot glue your rectangle, wrapping it around your formerly loose ends to hide them

all in all, this took about 10 minutes. pretty great right? i'm in love with sailor knots right now so wearing one in the smack center of my forehead seems about right. xoxo

kimono :: diy fashion

i was at goodwill the other day and found this beautiful robe.  i never wear robes, so i started thinking about how i could wear it.  since fringe is so 'in' right now, i had no problem finding some at the fabric store.  i simply cut the robe off at my desired length and then sewed on the fringe.  what do you think?

hi friends!  do you watch the kentucky derby?  if you are like my dear friend blair, you not only watch it, you plan your outfit weeks in advance (especially the hat)!  this year, i'm even thinking of hosting a little party of my own.  i think the big lawn on the farm will serve as the perfect setting for blankets, hats & mint juleps!

my sweet friend brenda just happens to restore the most gorgeous vintage hats and sells them at urban sassafras.  my trouble will be, like blair, choosing just which one to wear!

are you ready for fall?!  if you get excited about jeans, big sweaters and boots like i do each time the weather turns cooler, you'll love this diy!

1. cut sleeves from old sweater
2. fold over on one side (the wider side / upper arm) and hand sew lace ribbon 
3. embellish with a cute broach.

so simple!  i can't wait to wear these with a cute skirt and white fluffy sweater soon!

no sew heart cut-out tee :: diy :: fashion

hey hey happy weekend friends! here's a fun and easy peasy project for you to try out when you are relaxing this evening.  and just think how cool you'll look tomorrow when you wear it?!

• find an old tank - should be fitting to your figure, but not too tight
• cut out a heart in the back.  make as big or small as you please
• fold ribbon in half long-wise and then glue to inside of heart
• let dry and strut your stuff!

granny chic denim shorts :: diy :: fashion

by adding lace and some vintage fabric to some out-dated (and out of fashion) denim you can give them new life.  granny chic is very trendy right now... try mixing this look with a solid v-neck tee or wear over your floral swim suit to the beach!

colorful sunglasses :: diy

how hip are these?!  just hip enough for someone in their thirties to fashion!  i didn't have the courage to make the outer frame hot pink.

i've had this pair of sunglasses for a couple years now {amazing, right?} so i felt comfortable enough experimenting with them... you know, just in case i ruined them with my bright ideas.  sharpie paint markers are so so fun.  but, if you want to try this at home, be sure that you buy the actual paint markers.  regular sharpie markers won't work.
