last week, i asked "the monster" if he would like me to make a pie or a cake. he said "cake!" (of course). we thought about how to decorate the cake and since soccer is the big thing in our household right now, we settled on a soccer ball cake.
well... for my standards, it turned out to be a pretty lousy cake. but, "the monster" loved it and that's all that matters. i didn't have any shortening, so i substituted with butter. i didn't have any cocoa powder, so i substituted with instant hot chocolate. i didn't have any all-purpose flour, so i substituted with whole wheat flour. it came out pretty dense... not the light & fluffy cake one would want.
and the decorating. apparently, i am terrible at drawing pentagons. but, because it kinda resembled a soccer ball, "the monster" was thrilled.
this just proves, you don't have to actually be perfect to appear perfect in your child's eyes (at least until they are teenagers).
Maybe check the pantry first next time ;o)
