chaos at sunset :: abstract :: mixed media

i finally holed myself up in my art room the other day and worked on a few pieces. above, are the abstracts i finished. i'm obsessed with the colors.

i find abstracts to be very modern. i like them on a big blank wall. what do you think? do you decorate with abstracts?

big ears :: abstract art

if you follow me on facebook or instagram, you have figured out now that i'm obsessed with my bunny. well, really, any bunny.

so... this is happening now.

i like my new little abstract pieces. they make me laugh. and... i mean... it would be kinda cool to have bunny ears. right?

gold dust :: abstract art :: mixed media

i have an installation coming up at a local brewery & restaurant. i was inspired to do abstract pieces because i can walk away from them pretty easily with happiness. sometimes, when i work on more detailed pieces, i spend hours obsessing...

anyway, here are a few of my favorites. the pieces will all be hanging in the same room, so i wanted to go with a similar style. what do you think?

light & focus :: abstract photography

sometimes, messing with light and focus can be beautiful. most photographers will tell you to shoot in the shade so that there are no harsh shadows. but come on... isn't it fun to break the rules?

i like to shoot directly into the light and/or play with the focus so that everything is just a bit blurry. this creates an abstract feeling into an otherwise straight-forward artistry. this is also how you can create the sought after bokeh styling.

what do you think? will you try it?

squeegee art :: paintings

i love experimenting with new ways to create abstract backgrounds for art.  here i used a squeegee. crazy right?!  i like the way it blended the colors together... pulling the paint in some areas but not all.  it's linear too, which i think gives it a modern feel.

do you have a painting secret?  i'd love to hear it!

milk art :: diy

did you ever think milk could be so beautiful?!

here's the diy:

  1. poor a thin layer of milk (at least 2%, i used whole) into a shallow dish
  2. add a few of your favorite colors with food coloring
  3. now just a couple drops of dish soap and enjoy the show!
listen to me friends... this is how you win over any child.  i haven't met one yet that doesn't think i'm the absolute coolest when i show them this trick!  just be sure you all are wearing old clothes because everyone will want to try it after your captivating demonstration.  and food coloring stains.  spoken from experience.

happy weekend friends!
