go chalk yourself :: fashion :: diy

so, i have secretly wanted colored hair for a long time.   and not a subtle color either... i want strips of hot pink or blue hair.  the thing is, i'm a coward.  well, and a professional that has to meet with clients.  and, hot pink doesn't go with every outfit i own.

which is why i was thrilled to run across this on pinterest!

Chalk hair. Things needed: Soft Pastel Chalk (DO NOT confuse it with oil pastel. Oil pastel will be hard to remove). Just twist hair while chalking & brush away excess powder left from chalk. If you have dark hair, wet the hair before. If you have blonde hair or blonde tips do not wet your hair since it may leave a stain. If you have red hair try it without water first & if it doesn't work add very little water. This will get on your clothes so wear something close to the colors on your head or do an up-do so it doesn't get on your clothes. To remove it, brush through your hair, shampoo & condition to replenish the moisture.

    1. regular chalk will dry your hair out drastically and i'm not sure the color will stick as well. i think it will be more powdery than you would like. :)

  6. This is so beautiful. I'm not sure what kind of chalk you're using. But be careful using pastel chalks used for fine art. They have many caustic ingredients you shouldn't expose your body to. Many art schools don't allow students to use them. I worked with them for years using a mask and special exhaust systems. I miss them as an art medium.

    1. bright, vibrant colors work best for brown hair. oil pastels will make your hair very oily and it will get clumpy. plus, think oil pastels would be a nightmare to wash out. koss is a good brand of soft chalk pastels. good luck!
